Candle Care Guide: How to Make Your Candle Last Longer

A Little Care Makes a Beautiful Difference

A beautifully made candle deserves to be enjoyed from the first light to the final burn. With a few simple habits, you can help your candle burn more evenly, last longer and maintain a beautiful fragrance experience.

At Verde & Co., our candles are handcrafted in small batches in Montreal using carefully selected ingredients. Here are our essential candle care tips.

Trim the Wick Before Every Burn

Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch (6 mm).

A properly trimmed wick helps create a cleaner, steadier flame and can reduce soot, smoke and excessive burning.

Let the Wax Melt to the Edges

The first burn is especially important. Allow the melted wax to reach the edges of the container before extinguishing the candle.

This helps promote an even burn and prevents tunneling, allowing you to enjoy more of your candle.

Don't Burn Your Candle for Too Long

For the best performance, avoid burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.

Long burn sessions can cause the flame to become too large and the container to become excessively hot.

Keep Your Candle Away From Drafts

Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from open windows, fans and air vents.

Drafts can cause an uneven flame and prevent the wax from burning evenly.

Know When It's Time to Stop

Discontinue use when approximately ½ inch (1 cm) of wax remains at the bottom of the container.

Never leave a burning candle unattended, and always keep candles away from children, pets and flammable materials.

Make Every Moment Last

Taking care of your candle takes only a few seconds, but it can make a noticeable difference in how beautifully and evenly it burns.
